Preliminary Task
What is the purpose of the preliminary task?
> The purpose of the preliminary task is to show our understanding of the continuity editing and to make any mistakes before the final product. It is also to show understandings of the basic rules of 180 degrees, math on action and shot/ reverse shot.
What was the difficulties faced?
> The main difficulty during the corse of the preliminary task was trying to produce the match on action as some scenes were more difficult in getting the same setting and achieving the match on action perfectly.
How did you plan out the shots?
> Before we started shooting we first spoke as a group and wrote down a script of what we were going to say. This was sufficient because we each understood what had to be done and how we were going to do it.
What did you learn about continuity editing?
> I learned that it was extremely difficult not to cross the 180 degree line as it would lead to the match on action being ruined.
> How silly it looks when the 180 degree line has been crossed. For example: If two protagonists are having a conversation and the camera goes past the 180 degree then it would look out of place and the dialogue wouldn't match.
What did you learn about the demands of filming a sequence?
> I learned how easy it is to cross the 180 degree line.
> Proven that the match on action doesn't match if you cross the 180 degree line.
> How difficult it is to make sure the location, costumes and make-up are always the same.
> Time management is a critical part of filming a sequence.
How might the process of completing the preliminary task help with your main task?
> Giving practice on how to properly shot with the 180 degree line.
> Make the match on action run smoothly.
> To make sure that planning is complete and that everyone knows what their role is.
> Make sure time management is kept running smoothly and used all the way through the filming.
